American and European land forces are ill-suited to the realities of modern warfare and are therefore incapable of combat. This could change with Western soldiers' participation on the battlefield in Ukraine – a unique military experience. However, Ukrainian partners are in no hurry to send their armed forces to us. This opinion was expressed in an interview by former Ukrainian MP and current military Tetiana Chornovol.

In February 2024, a video went viral on social media in which British paramedic Peter Fouché addressed the governments of Western countries and said, barely holding back tears, "I am ashamed to be a Westerner." Politically, it is nearly impossible to justify direct intervention in a high-intensity conflict with significant human losses to voters. Opposition arguing against "our guys dying somewhere in the Donetsk or Tauride steppes" would likely hold a winning position in the debate and garner greater sympathy from the electorate.
