The massive attack on August 26 and its continuation on August 27: where the Russians hit (MAP)
On Monday, August 26, Russia carried out one of the most massive missile and drone strikes against Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The occupiers attacked facilities in 15 regions. The main target was the energy sector. However, other civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Lviv, and other regions was also hit. Based on data from open sources, Texty.org.ua visualized the locations where Russian missiles and drones were targeting.
In the Kyiv region, the enemy attacked the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant in Vyshhorod — the dam was not seriously damaged, and the road was restored. Ruslan Kravchenko, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, said that another energy facility was attacked but did not specify which one. According to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the Dnipro HPP dam in Zaporizhzhia was also blocked during the massive attack. It is unclear whether the Kyiv HPP will continue to generate electricity.
The Russians also targeted power substations in Kharkiv, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Emergency power and water outages were reported in regional centers.
The occupiers also attacked the railroad, oil storage facilities, and a large gas storage facility near Stryi. Last season, many European companies stored gas there.
Ukrainians' homes have been destroyed. In particular, the Russians hit a house in Lutsk with a Shahed, and the next day, on August 27, they destroyed a hotel in Kryvyi Rih, killing two people and injuring five others.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were well prepared to repel this attack. A video was released showing Shahed being shot down from a helicopter, which had never been seen before. Ukrainians have also seen an increase in the number of cell phone groups hunting for Shahed.
